$948 Weekly Cash Boost 2026 for Aussie Parents, Australia Parental Leave Pay Program [PLP]
The Government of Australia is offering a 26 week PLP benefit to women in the country who are about to give birth. Earlier the offer was providing a total 24 weeks benefits, but now the government has increased additional two weeks under the program and will help females to get more relaxation and time to care for their child.
It is a Government sponsored program where the government provides $948.10 per 5-day week to Eligible females for next 26 weeks. The amount is not provided from the employer side but the completely Government sponsored payment program to working females. You can start the program before Months of the birth of the child and complete the entire duration with the same amount.
PLP Benefits 2026
Apart from the females, the program also includes male parents. It will allow the spouse of the female ( male parent) to take a maximum 15 days leave. If you are using the combined benefit of the program where both parents can apply together for the payment and they can receive a full benefit from the government until they complete the duration of the PLP program 2026.
What Is The Date Of Implementing The PLP Program
Currently the government is providing the existing benefit of the program which is offering 24 week parental leave pay benefits to the female applicant. The new program will be implemented after 1 July 2026 onwards which will increase the duration of program for next 2 weeks. It will open 26 week benefits as compared to the 24 week benefits in 2025.
Difference between PLP and Paid leave
The parental leave pay program is a Government sponsored program and the entire payment of the program is released by the central link Australia. However the paid leave program is a Employer centric benefit which is provided by the employer to all their employees. You can take paid leave benefits for multiple purposes such as planning a vacation, due to illness and for birth too. Your company will also provide you the paid leave to take care of your child. The company will provide you full payment of your leaves until you reach the limits of the paid leaves in a year.
How to Maximise Benefit?
The paid leave program is provided to all their employees by the company in Australia including female employees to take care of your children. This program is completely different from the PLP benefit. However the PLP benefits are open to all the females in the country to take care of their child during the birth. So you can take paid leaves from the company and can also apply for the PLP simultaneously to receive the double benefits. It is important to consider that the benefit of PLP will only be provided to employees on their complete leave. So if you are going to the office then you will not be able to get the payment of that day in the PLP.
You can also save your PLP leaves for upcoming days by getting a hybrid benefit where you can use the company paid leave benefit for 2 to 3 days in a week and after that can start your PLPÂ benefits for the next 2 to 3 days. Your husband can also contribute to this program while you can go to office and your husband can get 2 to 3 days PLP benefits because they also have a right to get 15 days PLP amount under the program.
