U.S. Minimum Wage Hike 2026: There is some good news in sight of hourly workers with a number of states increasing their minimum wage rates in 2026, and even a major federal increase being discussed. These changes will be seen to bring millions of dollars into the pockets of people after over 15 years of no real federal increase. A report indicated that in 60 of those jurisdictions the minimum wage will now be or above 15 an hour to some or all employers. This will cover three states and 40 localities whose employees will earn at least $17 per hour at some employers.
$15 and $17 an Hour Wages Expand
Further increases are yet to come. In 2026, four more states and 22 local jurisdictions will increase their minimum wages. Among them, 25 areas will raise their minimum wage to $15 an hour or higher, including one state and 17 local jurisdictions, which will raise the minimum wage to at least $17 an hour against certain employers as reported.

Those which increased their minimum wage to January 1 are Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia and Washington.
Further Raises In US Minimum Wages In The Later Year
In the second part of the year, Alaska, Florida, and Oregon will be some of the states that will increase pay later in 2026.
- Hawaii has the highest percentage increment in wages per hour.
- Hawaii is the biggest single raise with a minimum wage of two dollars an hour.
- California proposes different wage law on health care workers.
- California will also pass a new minimum wage that directly applies to the health care workers.

The federal minimum wage is at a current of $7.25 per hour, which has been in existence since 2009 after undergoing a number of increases under the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007. According to the report published by the USA Today, 30 states and Washington, D.C., have higher minimum wages than the federal minimum wage of 7.25.
