Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit Schedule for 2026-27: Every Payment Date From July to April

Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit Schedule for 2026-27: Two of the four Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit payments for 2026-27 have now landed, which means half of this benefit year’s money is already out the door. The Canada Revenue Agency paid the first instalment on July 3 and the second on October 5, and the remaining two come in January and April 2027. For a single adult at the top of the scale, each quarterly instalment is worth about $170. A couple at the top gets about $222, and a single parent with one child gets about $281. The CRA’s own chart shows entitlements fading to nothing at $65,000 for a single person without children and at $85,000 for larger families. One quirk catches people every year: when a quarterly amount would be under $50, the CRA pays the whole year in July instead, so some households are not missing a payment at all, they already received it. We will be updating this article monthly.

The January and April dates have not been published yet. The CRA’s payment dates page currently lists 2026 only, and the Service Canada benefits calendar stops at December. Based on how the agency has timed past payments, which fall on the fifth of the month unless a weekend or holiday gets in the way, January 5 and April 5 look likely, but that is a pattern and not an announcement. What is already firm is the money that arrives between now and then. The Canada Child Benefit pays on October 20, November 20 and December 11, the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security pay on October 28, November 26 and December 22, and the Ontario Trillium Benefit pays on October 9, November 10 and December 10. Below is the full schedule, the CRA income chart in plain language, and a calculator that shows what you should have received so far and what remains.

Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit Schedule: All Payment Dates for 2026-27

The benefit year runs from July 2026 to June 2027. Your yearly entitlement is calculated once, from your 2025 tax return, and then paid in four equal quarterly instalments. The table shows where each payment stands today.

PaymentDateStatus as of October 11, 2026
Final GST/HST creditApril 2, 2026Paid, program has ended under that name
One-time top-upJune 5, 2026Paid, equal to 50 percent of the 2025-26 credit
Quarter 1July 3, 2026Paid
Quarter 2October 5, 2026Paid
Quarter 3January 2027Date not yet published, January 5 expected
Quarter 4April 2027Date not yet published, April 5 expected
Amounts resetJuly 2027Recalculated from your 2026 tax return

Direct deposit usually posts the morning of the payment date, while cheques go by mail and take longer. The CRA tells people to wait 10 working days after a payment date before calling about a missing benefit payment, so there is little point phoning on day two.

The Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit Payments Chart by Income and Family Size

The most useful official document is the CRA’s payments chart. It lists the yearly entitlement for each income level and family type for July 2026 to June 2027. The figures below come straight from that chart, and the agency notes that they are meant as a guideline. Divide any yearly amount by four to get the quarterly payment.

First, single people and single parents.

Adjusted family net incomeNo children1 child2 children3 children
Under $11,564$445.00$1,124.00$1,358.00$1,592.00
$14,000$493.72$1,124.00$1,358.00$1,592.00

$25,000 to $45,000$679.00$1,124.00$1,358.00$1,592.00
$50,000$500.60$945.60$1,179.60$1,413.60
$60,000$0.60$445.60$679.60$913.60
$65,000$0.00$195.60$429.60$663.60
$70,000$0.00$0.00$179.60$413.60
$75,000$0.00$0.00$0.00$163.60

Now married and common-law couples.

Adjusted family net incomeNo children1 child2 children3 children
Under $46,432$890.00$1,124.00$1,358.00$1,592.00
$48,000$811.60$1,045.60$1,279.60$1,513.60
$50,000$711.60$945.60$1,179.60$1,413.60
$55,000$461.60$695.60$929.60$1,163.60
$60,000$211.60$445.60$679.60$913.60
$65,000$0.00$195.60$429.60$663.60
$70,000$0.00$0.00$179.60$413.60

At $85,000 of adjusted family net income, every family type in the chart receives nothing. The pattern is easy to see once you read across a row. Below the first threshold the amount is flat, above $46,432 it falls by five cents for every extra dollar of income, and the child amounts keep a family eligible at higher incomes than a household with no children.

How Much Will I Get Each Quarter? Worked Examples

Yearly figures are harder to plan around than quarterly ones, so here are some common situations turned into per-payment amounts. These use the CRA chart values above.

SituationYearly entitlementPer quarter
Single, no children, $14,000 income$493.72$123.43
Single, no children, $20,000 income$613.72$153.43
Single, no children, $30,000 income$679.00$169.75
Single, no children, $50,000 income$500.60$125.15
Couple, no children, $55,000 income$461.60$115.40
Couple, no children, $60,000 income$211.60$52.90
Single parent, one child, $50,000 income$945.60$236.40
Couple, two children, $55,000 income$929.60$232.40

A single worker earning $50,000 collects less than one earning $30,000, but still gets about $125 each quarter. A couple at $60,000 with no children is close to the cutoff, and their $52.90 instalment sits only a few dollars above the small-payment rule.

Why You May Have Received One Lump Sum in July

The CRA does not issue quarterly payments when the quarterly amount would be under $50. In that case it pays the full yearly entitlement in a single July payment. Anyone whose yearly entitlement is below $200 falls into this group. The chart makes it concrete. A single person with no children and $60,000 of income has a yearly entitlement of $0.60, so the July payment was 60 cents. A single parent with one child at $65,000 has $195.60, which works out to $48.90 a quarter, so the whole $195.60 came in July and nothing follows in October, January or April. A couple with two children and $70,000 of income has $179.60, which is $44.90 a quarter, so the same applies.

This explains many of the complaints about missing October payments. The money was not skipped. It was front-loaded. If you recognize yourself here, check July in your CRA My Account payment history before contacting anyone.

How the Annual Amount Is Calculated

The method is the same one the GST/HST credit used. Each benefit year starts with base amounts: $445 for the individual, $445 for a spouse or common-law partner, and $234 for each child under 19. A single parent receives $445 for the first child and also qualifies for the extra $234 supplement, which is why a single parent with one child tops out at $1,124, the same as a couple with one child. A single person with no children can receive a supplement of up to $234 that phases in at 2 percent of income above $11,564, and that is why the chart climbs from $445 to $679 as income rises from about $11,500 to about $23,000.

Adjusted family net income, the measure that drives everything, starts with line 23600 of your return and your partner’s. The CRA subtracts universal child care benefit and registered disability savings plan income and adds back repayments of those amounts. Registered retirement savings plan withdrawals, capital gains and a one-time bonus all show up in line 23600, so a single unusual year can move you along the chart.

How to Apply: Do You Need a Separate Application?

Most people do not. Filing your income tax return is what puts you in line for the benefit, which is why the agency says to file even if you had no income. If you have a spouse or common-law partner, both of you should file. New residents of Canada, and people who have not filed a Canadian return before, may need to apply directly, and the CRA’s benefit page explains how.

The easiest way to check where you stand is CRA My Account. It shows your payment history, your upcoming dates and the status of your direct deposit. If you have never signed up, registration requires your social insurance number, date of birth and information from a recent return. Take a few minutes now to confirm that your address and banking information are current before the January payment.

Processing Time and What to Do When a Payment Is Late

The CRA assesses your entitlement after it processes your return. If you filed late, the agency pays the missed amounts retroactively, but they come with a later scheduled payment and not immediately. A return filed in August, for example, can lead to a larger deposit in October or January than the standard quarterly amount.

When a payment does not arrive on the expected date, the agency suggests a short checklist. Look at the payment status in CRA My Account, make sure your personal information is up to date and read through the reasons a payment may be stopped or changed. If you still cannot explain it, wait 10 working days before calling. The Canada Child Benefit has a shorter wait of five working days, which is a distinction many callers miss.

Other Federal and Provincial Payments Between October and December 2026

People who receive the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit often collect other payments too, and lining the dates up makes budgeting easier. This table pulls together the next three months from the Service Canada benefits calendar and the CRA payment dates page.

Newfoundland and Labrador Disability BenefitOctober 23November 25December 24

Notice that the December dates run early. The Canada Child Benefit comes on December 11, which is earlier than the usual 20th because of the holiday season. If you rely on that money for gifts or bills, plan around the earlier arrival and not the usual 20th.

Provincial Credits That Arrive With the Federal Payment

In New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan, a provincial credit may be added to the federal deposit on the same day. According to reporting by MoneySense, Quebec’s Solidarity Tax Credit is paid separately by Revenu Québec, and Ontario’s sales tax credit sits inside the Ontario Trillium Benefit. That is why an Ontario resident sees a federal payment on the fifth and a different Trillium payment on the ninth or tenth.

If a deposit looks larger or smaller than expected, open the statement in CRA My Account. It breaks the amount into its components, so you can see whether a provincial credit changed or whether the federal portion moved.

What the 25 Percent Enrichment Means for the Next Five Years

Finance Canada says the benefit’s base amounts were raised by 25 percent for five years, with the enrichment adding $8.6 billion over that period and the whole program, counting the June top-up, delivering $11.7 billion over six years. The department puts the number of recipients at more than 12 million and says about 500,000 additional people and families become eligible.

The government’s own examples show how the first year differs from later years. A single person can receive up to $950 in 2026-27, because the June top-up is included, and about $700 a year for the following four years. A couple with two children can receive up to $1,890 this year, then about $1,400. The chart above shows $1,358 for that family at lower incomes, which is the quarterly benefit alone. The difference is the one-time June payment. The practical lesson is to budget from the yearly chart and treat June’s payment as a one-off.

Smart Steps Before the January Payment

  • Open CRA My Account and check your payment history for July and October.
  • Confirm that both partners filed a 2025 return.
  • Verify your banking details, especially after changing banks.
  • Report changes in marital status, custody or the number of children.
  • If you think your income will change in 2026, use the calculator to see how that could move your July 2027 amount.
  • File your 2026 return early in the new year, well before the April 30 deadline.

Be wary of messages that claim a benefit is waiting if you click a link or provide banking details. The CRA does not charge to release a payment, and it does not ask you to confirm account numbers by text.
