Canada Disability Benefit Payment Dates, Amounts, Eligibility and How to Apply: The next Canada Disability Benefit payment arrives on Thursday, November 19, and the December deposit follows on Thursday, December 17. Since July, the maximum payment has been $204.20 a month, or $2,450.40 a year, after a 2% inflation adjustment. In September, Ottawa also began a one-time $150 supplemental payment for each approved Disability Tax Credit certificate, which lifted some September deposits to as much as $354.20. The federal government says 335,650 people have now received the benefit, with more than $813 million paid out so far. The Canada Disability Benefit is open to Canadians aged 18 to 64 who have an approved Disability Tax Credit, and your monthly amount depends on your family income. We’ll be updating this article monthly.
If you already get the benefit, you do not need to do anything to receive the $150 supplement, because it is issued automatically. A second round is planned for winter 2027 for people who became eligible after July 2026 or who have a new or renewed Disability Tax Credit approval. You also do not have to reapply each year while you stay eligible, even if your income is currently too high to receive a payment. The key is to file your tax return on time, since the amount for July 2026 to June 2027 is based on your 2025 return. Anyone who has not applied can still do so, and back payments can reach back up to 24 months, though never before June 2025. Below you will find the Canada Disability Benefit eligibility rules, income limits, payment schedule, application steps, processing time, worked examples and a free calculator.

$150 Supplemental Canada Disability Benefit Payment: Who Gets It and When?
The supplement is meant to help cover the cost of getting a Disability Tax Credit certificate, which is a required step for the benefit. It is a one-time $150 for each approved certificate that qualifies a person for the Canada Disability Benefit. Regulation changes were published on July 1, 2026 and took effect on September 1.
| Phase | Who qualifies | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Phase one | People who received a benefit payment between July 2025 and June 2026, including past recipients who are no longer eligible and people who got a lump sum | From September 17, 2026 |
| Phase two | People who became eligible since July 2026, and people with a new or renewed DTC certificate | Winter 2027 |
No application is needed. A person who got the maximum benefit would have seen up to $354.20 in September, which is the $204.20 monthly amount plus the $150 supplement.
Who Is Eligible for the Canada Disability Benefit?
You can qualify if you meet all of these conditions:
- You are between 18 and 64 years old
- You have been approved for the Disability Tax Credit
- You are a resident of Canada for tax purposes
- You are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person, person registered or entitled to be registered under the Indian Act, or a temporary resident who has lived in Canada for the previous 18 months
- You filed your income tax return for the previous year, and so did your spouse or common-law partner, unless a waiver applies
- You are not serving a federal sentence of two years or more
A waiver of the partner tax-filing rule can apply in situations such as a non-resident partner, living apart for reasons outside your control, or safety concerns. A person who is waived is treated as single for income purposes. Applications can be accepted up to six months before your 18th birthday.
Canada Disability Benefit Income Limits and Reduction Rates
The full amount goes to people with lower family income, and the payment shrinks as income rises. Working income is partly protected through an exemption.
| Situation | Income where reduction starts | Reduction rate | Working income exemption |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single, or waived partner | $23,000 | 20 cents per dollar | Up to $10,000 |
| Couple, only one partner is a beneficiary | $32,500 combined | 20 cents per dollar | Up to $14,000 combined |
| Couple, both partners are beneficiaries | $32,500 combined | 10 cents per dollar each | Up to $14,000 combined |
For a single person, the payment reaches zero at roughly $35,000 of family net income, or about $45,000 if you have at least $10,000 in working income.

How to Apply for the Canada Disability Benefit
Many people are invited to apply by letter, but you can apply without one.
- Make sure you have filed your 2025 tax return, and that your spouse or partner has too
- Confirm you have an approved Disability Tax Credit. If not, ask a medical practitioner to complete Form T2201 and send it to the Canada Revenue Agency
- Gather your Social Insurance Number or the six-digit code from your Service Canada letter, your contact details and your banking information
- Apply online through My Service Canada Account, which Service Canada recommends because it is processed faster
- You can also apply by calling 1-833-467-2700, visiting a Service Canada office, or mailing your application to the benefit processing centre in Boucherville, Quebec, which is the slowest option
After approval, there is no need to reapply while you remain eligible. You must reapply if your eligibility ends, for example when your DTC expires or a tax return is missing. You can also pause payments in writing for up to 24 months, but no back payments are available for paused months.
Canada Disability Benefit Processing Time
Service Canada does not publish a fixed timeline for applications. In a January 2026 government briefing, officials reported more than 375,000 decisions processed and more than 260,000 people paid in the first seven months, with an average call wait of about ten minutes. Online applications move faster than paper, and incomplete files, missing tax returns or a pending DTC decision cause the longest delays. The first payment arrives the month after approval, and eligible back payments are added for up to 24 months, but not for any month before June 2025.
