Canada Benefit Payment Dates: October 2026 marks the start of a new fiscal quarter for federal benefits, and it changes the payment picture for millions of Canadians. After a September with no Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit deposit, the quarterly payment returns this month — alongside the regular monthly cycle for the Canada Child Benefit, CPP, OAS, GIS, the Canada Disability Benefit, and the Advanced Canada Workers Benefit. Old Age Security also enters its next quarterly CPI review period, which can adjust payment amounts starting this month.
This guide lays out every confirmed October 2026 payment date, what’s new this quarter compared to September, and which benefits are not paying out this month.

What’s Changing This Quarter
The Groceries and Essentials Benefit is back. This is the biggest shift from September, when no CGEB deposit landed at all. The renamed and boosted successor to the GST/HST credit pays quarterly, not monthly. Its last deposit went out July 3, and the October 5 payment is the second one issued under the new name and the 25% increase that took effect starting with the July payment.
CPP and OAS move later in the month. After a September 25 deposit, the October payment shifts to October 28 — the same last-Wednesday-of-the-month pattern Service Canada follows for the rest of the year (November 26, December 22).
The Canada Child Benefit shifts two days later. September’s CCB landed on the 18th; October’s lands on the 20th, matching the benefit’s standard mid-month schedule.
The Canada Disability Benefit follows its usual third-Thursday rule. After the one-time $150 supplement paid out on September 17 to recipients who received CDB payments between July 2025 and June 2026, the program returns to its normal monthly schedule this month.
OAS enters a new quarterly review window. Old Age Security and GIS amounts are adjusted every January, April, July and October based on the Consumer Price Index. The July–September 2026 quarter saw a 1.2% increase — the largest single-quarter adjustment of the year. Whether the October–December quarter brings a further increase depends on the most recent CPI data from Statistics Canada; by law, OAS rates never decrease even if inflation cools, so any adjustment can only hold steady or rise.
Full Breakdown by Benefit
Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB) — October 5
Formerly the GST/HST credit, renamed and increased 25% starting with the July 2026 payment, with the government stating the boost will remain in place for five years. It pays quarterly: January, April, July and October. There is no separate application — eligibility is determined automatically from your filed tax return.
Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB) — October 9
A provincial credit administered by the CRA for Ontario residents, combining the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, the Northern Ontario Energy Credit and the Ontario Sales Tax Credit into one monthly deposit. Recipients with a low total annual entitlement may get a single lump sum instead of monthly payments.
Advanced Canada Workers Benefit (ACWB) — October 9
Paid as automatic advance instalments (three per year) to eligible low-income workers, based on the prior year’s tax return. No application is needed beyond filing taxes on time.
Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) — October 15
For working-age Canadians (18–64) with an approved Disability Tax Credit certificate, paid on top of provincial disability programs like ODSP or AISH rather than replacing them. It’s income-tested, requires a filed tax return, and first payments can be backdated up to 24 months from a complete application — but never earlier than June 2025, the program’s first month of eligibility.
Canada Child Benefit (CCB) — October 20
A tax-free monthly payment for eligible families with children under 18. Amounts for the 2026–27 benefit year are based on your family’s 2025 adjusted net income. Payments continue monthly through November 20 and an earlier-than-usual December 11 deposit ahead of the holidays.
CPP, OAS and GIS — October 28
Retirement, disability and survivor CPP benefits, along with OAS and the Guaranteed Income Supplement, are paid together by Service Canada. The maximum CPP retirement pension at 65 is $1,507.65 a month for 2026, though the average new beneficiary receives closer to $925.35, since few contributors reach the maximum contribution history. OAS maximums for the current quarter are $751.97 (ages 65–74) and $827.17 (age 75 and older, reflecting the permanent 10% top-up in place since 2022).
What’s Not Paying Out in October
- Alberta Child and Family Benefit — follows its own quarterly schedule (February, May, August, November); its next deposit isn’t until November 27.
- Canada Carbon Rebate — this program is closed; its final payment was issued in 2025.
Note that the Newfoundland and Labrador Disability Benefit runs on its own CRA schedule (October 23) rather than tracking the CPP/OAS date (October 28), even though both land in the same week.

How to Check Your Payment
For CRA-administered benefits (CGEB, ACWB, CCB), sign in to CRA My Account to see your expected payment date, amount and eligibility status. For CPP, OAS, GIS and CDB, use My Service Canada Account. If a payment doesn’t arrive on the scheduled date, the government advises waiting five to ten business days before contacting the relevant department. Direct deposit is faster and more reliable than a mailed cheque.
As always, be cautious of unsolicited texts, emails or calls asking for banking details or a Social Insurance Number in connection with a benefit payment — the CRA and Service Canada do not request this information this way.
This page will be updated as the Canada Revenue Agency and Service Canada confirm final October–December 2026 OAS/GIS amounts and any further program changes heading into the fourth quarter.
